Israel is rich in solar resources, but was relatively slow in adopting incentive programs for solar energy production. This is changing now; the Israeli Government is promoting solar power generation through feed-in-tariffs (“FIT”) as well as running a number of tenders for large projects. Summing up these announced initiatives, the investments in solar projects is expected to amount to $2.8B over the next 5 years. In addition, the expectations are that the government will promote more initiatives to reach a target of generating 10% of Israel’s electricity from renewable sources by 2020. The government incentives and the high solar irradiation levels position Israel as an emerging and one of the most attractive solar markets. |
