Solar power generation has a number of benefits, most notably:
- Reduction of “greenhouse” gas emissions – Electricity generated by solar projects does not consume fossil fuels, and therefore, leads to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Each KWh generated by Solar PV facilities in Israel saves approximately 0.7KG of carbon emissions.
- Increase Energy Independence – Israel is almost totally dependent on import of fossil fuels. The use of solar power will increase Israel’s energy independence.
- Encouraging innovation and local industry – Historically, countries that provided incentives to solar power generation benefited from the creation of a local industry that provided innovation and upper-stream products and services. Providing incentives to solar projects in Israel will result in creating a local industry and especially encouraging innovation and R&D, areas where Israel has a relative advantage.
- Developing Southern Israel – Providing incentives to solar projects will bring many solar projects to the Negev and Arava, thereby creating jobs and boosting economic activity in these regions that are otherwise under populated and underdeveloped deserts.
