Solar Resources Assessment - Israeli Specific Sources

The Negev Solar Radiation Survey
A study performed by Prof. Faiman of the Ben-Gurion National Solar Energy Center for the Ministry of National Infrastructures about solar irradiation at a number of stations in the Negev and Arava regions.

The PV Design Guide
Another study performed by Prof Faiman focusing on the major cities in Israel – Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Beer-Sheva as well as Eilat in the southern tip of Israel.

Solar Resources Assessment - General Sources

PVGIS
A site sponsored by the European Commission that includes interactive maps and solar resource assessment.  The data is based on HelioClim-1 database with PVGIS calculation model ( the number of ground stations in Israel is limited compared to European countries)

NASA
NASA’s data that can also be used by the RETScreen analysis software. The data is based on satellite measurements and the resolution is rather coarse (100KM)

Meteonorm
A Swiss database that provides global solar and meteorological data. The database contains many stations in Europe but in Israel the number of ground stations is limited. They also provide software that can calculate based on their algorithm the solar irradiation in any place, but there is not documentation regarding their accuracy in Israel.

SWERA
The Solar and Wind Energy Resource Assessment (SWERA). For Israel, the database contains information provided by NASA and NREL. The NREL data is at 40KM resolution.

SunnyPortal
SMA’s site that provides field performance of actual PV systems at various locations around the world.  Access to most of the systems is private, but some system owners share their info publicly. There are numerous systems in Israel that share their info.

Israel Government and Governmental Entities
